If you get convicted of a any type of traffic offense that is considered a moving violation you will most likely receive points on your driver’s license. The amount of points given for a traffic conviction depend on the severity of the violation and Missouri has set amount of points for each type of traffic law.
If you receive 8 or more points in an 18 month period the Department of Revenue (DOR) will suspend your drivers license:
- 1st suspension – 30 days
- 2nd suspension – 60 days
- 3rd or more suspensions – 90 days
The DOR will suspend your driver’s license for one year if you accumulate:
- 12 or more points in 12 months
- 18 or more points in 24 months
- 24 or more points in 36 months
In addition to receiving points on your driver’s license which can lead to a suspension of your license, your auto insurance costs will usually raise significantly even if you only have a few points on your record.
