Moline Acres’ “Positive Ticketing” Program – the first 30 days.
Moline Acres’ “Positive Ticketing” Program – the first 30 days. That’s right, the new program is called Positive Ticketing. The STLtoday reported that Moline Acres handed out more than 60 tickets last month to citizens for doing things right.* Police are conducting traffic stops to reward behavior like stopping fully at a stop sign, putting trash in a trash receptacle, etc. The police are issuing tickets that look like normal traffic tickets but there is no actual court summons, instead people are invited to a court function where recipients of the tickets receive $32 in gift certificates to Imo’s and for the bus, recipients are even entered into a drawing for a bicycle.
Similar programs have been implemented elsewhere in the United States. The City of Moline Acres and and the New Life Evangelistic Center created the Positive Ticketing program and were reported to be working toward spreading similar programs to other municipalities. So I wonder what happens when these ticket recipients turn out to have an active warrant, or their tags are expired, or the car smells like pot, etc. I guess we’ll find out lol. What do you think about Positive Ticketing? When you see the cherries in your rear view mirrow, will you be that person that starts out pissed because you know you didn’t do anything wrong, but ends up laughing while smiling about your coming gift certificates? Or are you that person that starts out pissed and just gets more pissed because you don’t appreciate the interruption or the blood pressure points? What do you say St Louis?
